Acupuncture and Sports Therapy

Acupuncture and sport therapy
The musculo-skeletal system is a beautiful integrated system of bones, cartilage, muscles, fascia, nerves, blood and lymph vessels.

It enables us to move with ease, manipulate the physical world and provide a powerful means of expression and experience of ourselves.

Musculo-skeletal of somatic disorders occur frequently and problems experienced are diverse and include acute traumatic injuries, inflammatory and degenerative conditions.

Diagnosis
The western medical model emphasises structures such as bones, cartilage, muscles, etc., describing the way they relate to each other and work together in a fairly mechanical way. The overall picture is built up from the parts.

The traditional Chinese medical approach refers more to function: what the parts do and how they relate to each other. It is the activity of a part that is emphasized and the overall picture is based on the body's holistic functioning.

Treatment
As a qualified acupuncturist and sport massage therapist Jo draws on the strengths inherent in both models combining acupuncture, massage and exercises as appropriate for the individual.
Her practice is registered with Environmental Health Services. The pre-packed sterile needles are used only ones before being disposed of safely.

The initial treatment session includes a full consultation and may last up to 90 minutes. Subsequent sessions are usually no longer than 45 minutes.

Some conditions may only need a few sessions. A longer course may be required for chronic ailments.

About Acupuncture
This is a traditional Chinese system of medicine which treats your body as a dynamic whole flowing with interrelated and interactive energies. It is a relaxing external therapy aimed at the surface of the body which can help relieve aches, pains, sprains, stiffness and general health problems. Acupuncture is recognised by the World Health Organisation.

Acupuncture is an external therapy aimed at the surface of the body which can relieve not only external problems but also internal ones.

Free flow of energy
When healthy, your energy or Qi (Pronounced "chee") flows smoothly and strongly along channels in the body. Classical acupuncture teachings state that whenever there is pain, there is a lack of free flow and that if there is free flow there is no pain.

Acupressure massage
This is an ancient healing art and is excellent for aches, pains, stiffness.
It is often used in conjunction with acupuncture and can also be used for relief of general health problems.

Sport massage

Remedial/therapeutic massage
This beneficial to anyone who is suffering from previous injuries, aches, pains shoulder and back tension. It is a gentle massage, very relaxing and soothing.
